Dymock Red

Why you should be excited

Dymock Red is an old English bittersharp cider apple that’s sometimes also used for fresh eating and baking.

The story of Dymock Red

While it’s not one of the better known English cider apples, Dymock Red has been compared favourably to the legendary Kingston Black, so you know it’s got lots going for it.

Thought to have originated in Gloucestershire in the late 1600s, it may be the only thing holding this variety back has been its susceptibility to both scab and – more concerning – canker.

Aside from that issue, the juice is of such a quality that it’s designated as being of ‘vintage quality,’ meaning that it’s one of a small number of varieties considered sufficiently well balanced to make a quality single varietal cider..
