Korallo

Why you should be excited

Korallo is an obscure variety that’s virtually unknown except for the fact that it is a sport (minor genetic variation) of Cox’s Orange Pippin.

The story of Korallo

When an apple variety is as widely loved as England’s Cox’s Orange Pippin, it’s no surprise that there is great interest in its parents (one of them is Ribston Pippin), its children (there are so many, including excellent varieties like Suntan, Karmijn de Sonaville and others) and even minor genetic variations of it (here is where Korallo comes on the scene).

What’s mystifying about Korallo is not that folks would name and propagate it, given its famous  originator.

What’s mystifying is why there is virtually no mention of Korallo in any apple reference, published or online.

We’ll just call it the ‘silent’ Cox’s Orange Pippin relative.
