Three Counties

Why you should be excited

Three Counties is a modern bittersweet English cider apple that’s received accolades both for the fruit and the tree.

The story of Three Counties

One of 29 new varieties of cider apple bred at the former Long Ashton research station in England, Three Counties was part of an effort to reinvigorate cider apple growing with new varieties that were productive, disease-resistant, super-juicy and – most importantly – of high quality.

In an industry bound by tradition and one where it takes a lot of time to change directions because trees only grow and start producing so fast, this was a big deal. And we’re happy to be growing some of the successes of the effort.

Word is that Three Counties is a happily vigorous grower that starts producing good quality fruit at a young age.

With high sugars and substantial astringency, this is a cider variety to watch, for sure.
